Akplogan - Adiel
Adiel A. Akplogan is the Chief Executive Officer of AFRINIC, the Regional Internet Registry for Africa since 2004. With a strong passion for Internet technology, he is one of the Internet pioneers in West Africa where, in the early 90s, he set up and managed one of the very first private and independent Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the region.
With more than 15 years of experience in the Internet industry, he has served as a member of the UN SEcretary General's Internet Governance Forum Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (IGF MAG) from 2006-2009, in the African Technical Advisory Committee of the United NAtions Economic Commission for Africa (ATAC/UNECA) from 2005-2006, and in the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) Group of Experts on Internet Governance in 1999.
As CEO of AFRINIC, Mr Akplogan has served Chair of the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Executive Council in 2009, and was involved in setting up several technical coordination bodies in Africa, such as the African Network Operators Group (AfNOG), where he serves as a member of the Administrative Committee, and the African ccTLD Managers Association (AfTLD).
Mr Akplogan is an Electrical Engineer and holds and M.Sc. in E-Business and New Technology Management.
Since 2009, Mr Akplogan has contributed on a regular basis to publications specialising in ICT, both on technical issues and broader aspects of Internet governance.
