Biography: 

Pilar del Castillo was Minister of Education, Culture and Sport for the Spanish Government between 2000 and 2004. She still has strong ties with the education world as she is Dr. in Political Sciences (UNED), since 1994.
Pilar studied in the United States, Ohio State University, with a Fulbright grant, whereby she specialized in political and electoral behaviour. Between 1996 and 2000 she was director of the Sociological Investigations Centre (CIS) in Spain.
Currently she is a member of the European Parliament whereby most of her activity is devoted to telecommunication issues and Internet. In this area she is member of the advisory board of the European Internet Foundation (EIF) and member of a number of international associations working in the sector, such as the International Women Forum.
