Khandu - Sangay
Sangay Khandu is a Member of Parliament in the National Council of Bhutan. He is a member of the parliamentary committee on Good Governance and has served as the Deputy Chairperson and also as Chairperson of the Committee.
An advocate of transparency in governance, he has worked to introduce the first draft legislation on Right to Information in Bhutan. In his active quest to broaden and deepen democratic process in Bhutan, he actively participates in various national forums and the media to promote greater transparency in governance and in enhancing civic engagement. He has also participated in regional forums on matters related to right to information and transparency in governance.
Currently he serves on the advisory committee of the Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy, the only Bhutanese media civil society organization in the country, whose aim is to educate the public on democracy.
Sangay Khandu began his career with the Central Bank of Bhutan, then a hydropower utility company and also worked at the UN (International Trade Centre) before he contested for public office in Bhutan’s first democratic elections held in 2008.
