Kovacs - Anja
Dr. Anja Kovacs heads the Internet Democracy Project in Delhi. Through research and advocacy, the Project seeks to unearth the changes the Internet has wrought on democracy and the implications of these changes for our visions of progressive social change if they are to remain relevant in the digital age. She is also a Fellow at the Centre for Internet and Society, Bangalore, where she was earlier employed, as well as an international consultant on Internet issues, including for the United Nations Development Programme Asia Pacific and the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression, Mr. Frank La Rue.
Prior to focusing her work on the information society, Dr. Kovacs researched and consulted on a wide range of development-related issues. She has lectured at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, and Ambedkar University, Delhi, India, and has conducted extensive fieldwork throughout South Asia. She obtained her PhD in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia in the UK, and has been based in India since 2001.
