Biography: 

Dr. Liu Chuang is Professor of Institute of Geography and Natural Resources, Chinese Academy of Science, and Director of the Digital Lin Chao Geomuseum, the Geographical Society of China. She is High Level Panel of Advisors of UNDESA GAID and Co-Chair of the Executive Committee of the UNDESA GAID e-SDDC, one of the Communities of Expertise in GAID Business Plan,Member of Consultative Committee on UN Information Technology (CCIT),China Association for Science and Technology(CAST) . She also serves WGISS/CEOS (Working Group of Information System and Services, the Committee of Earth Observation Satellites) as the Liaison to the CODATA/WDS/ICSU. She was the User Vice Chair of WGISS/CEOS from 2004-2012, Co-Chair of Task Group of Preservation of and Access to Scientific Data in Developing Countries of CODATA, the International Committee on Data for Science and Technology from 2002-2008, she received the CODATA Prize 2008. She was Director of Global Change Information and Research Center, Institute of Geography and Natural Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1999-2007, Director of Institute of World Resources Research, College of Science and Technology of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University from 2006-2012. She got Ph.D. degree in Peking University, China in 1989, Associate Professor in Peking University from 1989-1991, visiting professor in UBC (University of British Columbia), Canada from 1992-1993, Post-doctor fellow and Information Scientist in CIESIN (Center of International Earth Science Information Network), USA from 1994-1998. She published two books, more than twenty databases, seven software packages and more than seventy publications, which are related to the land use planning, GIS and remote sensing applications and digital scientific data management policy and technology.
