Biography: 

Andrejs Vasiljevs is a member of the Bureau of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Council for IFAP – the Information for All Programme. In the IFAP Bureau, Andrejs takes responsibility for the Working Group on Information Ethics. Andrejs has received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Latvia. He is the co-founder and chairman of Tilde – a leading European language technology company specializing in machine translation and other technologies for smaller languages. Andrejs takes an active part in the development of inclusive information society in Latvia by participating in knowledge society programmes of the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO and serving as the Vice President of the Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association (LIKTA). His specific professional interests are in technologies to overcome the language barriers and foster the language diversity in cyberspace. He is a member of the Commission of the State Language of Latvia and a board member of the European Language Resource Association.
