Flávio R. Wagner received the Dr.-Ing. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 1983, the MSc degree in Computer Science in 1977 and the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1975, both from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil. He is a Full Professor of the Institute of Informatics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where he served as Dean from 2006 to 2011. Since October 2011 he is the Director of the Science Park of UFRGS. His main research interest is the design and architecture of electronic embedded systems. He has more than 180 scientific publications on conferences and journals and has served as member of international Program Committees in more than 40 conferences in the fields of electronic design automation and embedded systems. He has been Chair of the IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) Working Group 10.5, which gathers experts in the field of Design and Engineering of Electronic Systems, from 2001 to 2007, and is an Associate Editor of the journal “Design Automation for Embedded Systems”, from Springer. He served in the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) for 12 years and has been its President in two consecutive terms, from 1999 to 2003. Since 2008 he is a Board member of CGI.br, the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee.
